Title:  Senior Mechanical Engineer/Specialist

Job Purpose

Autonomously performs a variety of assignments through the application of basic mechanical engineering theories, techniques, and practices.  Autonomously utilizes relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry-standard practices for the control, development, and application of deliverables in line with established procedures and processes. Applies experience-based analyses and interpretations of codes and standards to practical applications. The middle-level position following defined processes and precedents to complete assigned tasks with complete independence specific to mechanical engineering; and able to contribute to defining new processes.  Lead or support the mechanical department activities on project execution, and other department tasks as assigned by the Department Head.

Main Scope/Responsibilities

  • Business Development Support:
    • Assists business development activities by maintaining an up to date personal profile and resume. 
    • Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors. 
    • May support proposals, or may lead proposals by developing the discipline execution strategy, estimating costs, writing proposal content, and presenting to customers
  • Business Operations:
    • May operate as Lead Engineer on one or more projects
    • Ensures the project work is covered for vacation and unplanned absences & be responsible for a smooth handover. 
    • Delivers training, or independently develops the content of the training. 
    • Performs all activities and prepares deliverables in compliance with the requirements and JESA internal processes; and oversees team's performance accordingly. 
    • Checks deliverables prepared by Engineers and Designers to ensure compliance with requirements and JESA internal processes and Project specific requirements.
    • Independently works to resolve interdisciplinary, vendor, and customer issues. 
    • Ensures own and team's technical work and activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements in line with Company practices. 
    • Accomplishes some Department activities as assigned by the Department Head.
  • Technical Competency:
    • Ensures adherence to generally accepted engineering and mechanical design codes and standards, regulatory requirements, such as ASME, ANSI, API, ISO, DIN, CEMA, etc. And customer specifications. 
    • Able to independently perform equipment sizing calculations according to codes and supervise others to ensure the same.
    • Understands and identifies information that needs to be exchanged with other disciplines depending upon interrelationships and equipment and ensures suitable exchange. 
    • Actively participates in and may guide the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates. 
    • Understands technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful. 
    • Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence and supervises others to ensure the same. 
    • Autonomously performs the processes for checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings. Reviews of drawings and deliverables made by Designers and Engineers.
    • Understand & apply SOP'S, work instructions, checklists, standard specifications & design basis during the execution of projects and supervise others to ensure the same.

Main Scope/Responsibilities (continued)

  • Project Execution:
    • Participates in the execution strategy and planning for small and medium EPC & EPCM projects. Plans, predicts work flow and administers team.
    • Knows the discipline scope/cost/time requirements, assists the team to meet expectations, and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure project success. 
    • Ensures team timesheets are completed on time.
    • Ensure Project Execution activities are performed by a team.
    • Implement innovative solutions, technological advances and methods to effectively manage out-of-sequence work. Supports Project Management Team to take corrective actions regarding any issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, progress, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
    • Project Deliverables:
    • Prepares and reviews Mechanical engineering deliverables for medium EPC & EPCM projects, such as Mechanical Datasheet, Specification, Technical Requisition, design calculations for Tanks, Pressure Vessels and Conveyors, bucket elevators, screens, ball mills, etc., inquiry and order specifications, Performing Technical bid evaluation 
    • Is able to detect technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros & cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc. Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval. Reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports. 
    • Check the plans and documents prepared by the designers and engineers. 
    • Leads team to work on the review of vendor documents including, drawings, specifications, calculations, in coordination with other disciplines.
    • Timely reports to Project team and Management
  • Procurement Support:
    • Prepares or supervises the preparation of Mechanical equipment RFQ (Requisition for Quotation) packages. Prepares piping RFP (Requisition for Purchase) packages. 
    • Participates in face to face with bidders, conducts bid evaluations, completes inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and finalizes other certification activities. Reviews similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorize work done by direct reports.
  • Site Support:
    • Seeks input from knowledgeable sources, may participate in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, and incorporates requirements into engineering/design. 
    • Independently identifies and ensures the exchange of relevant equipment information with site personnel.
    • Works with site personnel to resolve issues from office and site. 
    • May create plans or documents that support construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning. 
    • May provide on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turnover.

Education

  • Engineering Degree (graduate or postgraduate)
  • Curricula: Mechanical Engineering or similar

Global Experience

  • 4 to 7 years

Specific Experience in the position

  • Experience in design, specification, and selection of Mechanical equipment like pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, tanks, conveyors, and other material handling equipment.
