Title:  Principal Instrumentation & Control Engineer/ Specialist

Job Purpose

Performs a variety of assignments through the application of  I&C engineering theories, techniques, and practices. Use of relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry-standard practices for the control, development, and application of deliverables while gaining exposure to procedures and processes. High-level position following defined processes and precedents to complete assigned tasks with increasing independence specific to an area of specialty. Leads projects execution for industrial programs, large & complex projects. Supports the department in development activities (training, improvement, lessons learned)

Main Scope/Responsibilities

  • Business Development Support:
    • Assists business development activities by maintaining an up-to-date personal profile, resume database, and provide inputs for new project proposals (hours estimate, scope definition, assumptions/exclusions).
    • Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors. 
  • Business Operations: 
    • Ensures the project work is covered for vacation and unplanned absences. 
    • Supports the delivery of training: developing the content and facilitating assigned training topics.
    • Ensures that work is done in compliance with technical requirements and JESA internal processes. 
    • Ensures discipline technical work meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements. 
    • Use of sizing, calculation, and Engineering software (Instrucalc, vendors software, AutoCAD, Smart Plant Instrumentation…)
    • Identifies Improvements ideas of work methods, Work Instructions & procedures. 
    • Develops optimized engineering and innovative solutions: (fit for purpose design, technology, materials, architectures)
    • May supervise part of a discipline team if required
    • Provides technical support, supervision, and advice to the discipline team and project teams; participate in peer reviews, and consult with relevant resources as required.
    • Initiates manage and if required supervises engineering assignments on projects that meet project requirements on time and within budget
  • Technical Competency:
    • Sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the discipline and the basic requirements of other disciplines to perform routine aspects of Instrumentation & Control engineering and design activities including sizing, calculations, technology, and material selection for I&C packages and components (Flowmeters, Valves, Pressure, Temperature, density meters, conductivity, concentration, Analysis, DCS, API,  ...), and installation specifications requiring knowledge and application of basic & advanced I&C principles.
    • Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills in the relevant discipline and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work to JESA and its clients.
    • Advanced knowledge in material and technology selection
    • Advanced technical knowledge related to field environment and requirements
    • Advanced knowledge in instrumentation & control concepts
  • Project Execution :
    • Provides information and support on I&C engineering tasks assigned by I&C Lead to aid the project team in the proposal preparation, track project progress.
    • Provides elements and inputs required by the I&C lead such as bills of material, I&C schematics, and layouts based on customer requirements and specifications to estimate I&C work and activities.
    • Participates in workshops involving multi-engineering disciplines, vendors, and customers such as interactive planning sessions, P&ID Review, Piping Connection Reviews, 3D Model Review, Electrical Communication Standard Review.
    • Reviews and checks engineering deliverables.
    • Conducts technical audits for projects & programs assigned as I&C lead
    • Manages within I&C team interfaces, prepares/updates/maintains discipline budgets,  Manages to implement quality activities and schedule monitoring

Main Scope/Responsibilities (continued)

  • Project Deliverables:
    • Gathers data from multiple sources and Interface with internal Processes, Piping, Electrical, and Mechanical teams. Analyzes and synthesize data collected (process data, piping PMS, Electrical communication protocols, client standard, HAZOP outcomes) to ensure the integrity of Design (correct sizing, material & technology selection). 
    • Incorporates data collected into I&C specifications, datasheets, and material requisitions. Check the documents after editing and verify the adherence to the applicable work instructions, checklists, standard specifications, and project design basis.
    • Use of sizing, calculation & engineering software (Instrucalc, AutoCAD, smart plant instrumentation, validated vendors software, ...)
  • Procurement Support: 
    • Prepares I&C requisitions with associated annexes for inquiry,
    • Conducts technical bid evaluation of I&C packages/sections in the bidders' offers.
    • Provides recommendation to purchase based on project and disciplines technical criteria's
  • Site Support: 
    • Supports field assignments and field walk-downs as required as well as assists field forces in resolving issues & requests related to I&C construction documents (instruments Location Layout, loops drawings, wiring diagrams...) and vendors data

Education

  • Awarded as minimum 5 years technical degree in engineering recognized by the state
  • Curricula: Instrumentation, Control system, Automation

Global Experience

  • 8 to 12 years

Specific Experience in the position

  • Substantial technical and practical experience in the relevant discipline in the same or similar industry,
  • including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
